Before The Shoe Vault in Canungra housed the region’s most eclectic and vibrant collection of ladies footwear, fashionable handbags and stylish jewellery, it stored a different type of treasure for the town.

The history of The Shoe Vault spans back to the 1930’s, when the Canungra township relocated their Commercial Bank of Australia.

Canungra’s beginnings as a village settlement in the 1880’s saw the establishment of the Canungra Sawmill, before paving the way for the Canungra Branch Railway in 1915.

Fast forward to 1937 when the ever-growing town prompted the need for a bigger Post Office, erecting a building to the side of the previous Post Office.

It’s between these two buildings that Canungra’s Commercial Bank of Australia came to be.

Although the bank closed its doors in 1979, the building is still being used today. Since 2014, it has been the location of the Scenic Rim’s The Shoe Vault, offering a selection of the most comfortable, stylish and fashionable shoes from all over the world.

Nestled in the treasured foothills of Lamington National Park is a wonderful country town with a welcoming community feel. Canungra is located only 40 minutes from the Gold Coast and is home to approximately 1200 people. Originally a timber town, with a history of military and forestry, Canungra is now a destination village with incredible cafes, boutique stores, and wineries. Frequently visited by tourists and day-trippers alike, Canungra features plenty of opportunities to relax or head out for adventure. Nora and Matthew have always loved Canungra, and there’s nowhere they’d rather be.

With hard work and sense for the market, The Shoe Vault has gone from strength to strength. Yet our store wouldn’t be as successful without the ongoing support of the tourist trade and the Scenic Rim community. We adore our regular visitors who frequently check out the latest stock lines from around the world. The Shoe Vault offers a fantastic range of ladies fashion and shoes from Spain, Portugal, Brazil, and Italy. You won’t find stylish footwear like this in the big shopping centres – because our range is continually refreshed with all the latest styles. Our shoes are designed for comfort and can be dressed up for formal occasions but also dressed down for a smart casual look.

We have added a fresh lick of paint to our market area. We’re open and business is booming with strong support from locals and day-trippers. We’re thrilled that the Shoe Vault Market Place has also returned over weekends! Get your coffee fix from The Six Oakes coffee shop, browse the memorabilia at Retrohub or home décor at Drift The artisan collective and a gift wares store, have joined the Shoe Vault family! The future is certainly looking bright
